Lewandowski Rejects Huge Saudi Offer to Stay at Barcelona
Mansion Sports - Robert Lewandowski’s agent, Pini Zahavi, has revealed that the Barcelona star turned down a staggering offer to join the Saudi Pro League last summer.
While Barcelona’s 2024–25 season has been dominated by the dazzling performances of Raphinha and Lamine Yamal—both widely touted as Ballon d’Or contenders—the Catalan club’s success has also been heavily shaped by Lewandowski’s influence.
The 36-year-old striker netted 42 goals in 52 appearances, finishing second in the race for the Pichichi Trophy.
His clinical finishing played a pivotal role in helping Barcelona secure a domestic treble, despite coming close to leaving Camp Nou the previous year.
The Lucrative Proposal That Was Declined
Speaking to Polish outlet Fakt, Zahavi confirmed that a major bid had been tabled by a Saudi Pro League club.
“A year ago, [Lewandowski] received a concrete offer from one of the Saudi clubs. They offered him more than €100 million per season. Per season!” Zahavi stated.
“But he preferred to compete in La Liga and the Champions League. And he came close to achieving both goals.”
A Season of Triumph at Barcelona
Under the guidance of Hansi Flick, Barcelona reclaimed the La Liga title from Real Madrid, won the Spanish Super Cup, and defeated Los Blancos in the Copa del Rey final.
Their Champions League run, however, ended in the semifinals with a loss to Inter Milan. Determined to make amends next season, the club is expected to keep Lewandowski as a central figure in their ambitions.
Why He Turned Down the Move
“This is the place [Lewandowski] belongs, where he feels most comfortable,” Zahavi explained. “Besides, Saudi clubs are already flooded with players and don’t always know what to do with them. There’s a limit on the number of foreign players they can register, so their options are restricted. But Robert simply had no intention of playing there.”
Meanwhile, Iñigo Martínez chose a different path, departing Barcelona to join Cristiano Ronaldo at Al Nassr.
The centre-back was an unsung hero in the club’s successful season but has now taken his career to the Saudi Pro League.
Looking Ahead to His Future
Lewandowski’s current contract with Barcelona runs until June 2026. With his form showing no signs of decline, discussions about his long-term future at the club are expected to intensify in the coming months.
