Donnarumma’s Agent Accuses PSG of Altering Contract Agreement
Mansion Sports - Gianluigi Donnarumma’s agent, Enzo Raiola, has accused Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) of changing the terms of the goalkeeper’s new contract agreement just weeks after his pivotal role in the club’s UEFA Champions League triumph.
The timing of this development has raised eyebrows, coming shortly before Donnarumma was nominated for both the Yachine Trophy and the Ballon d’Or.
Donnarumma’s current contract is set to expire in June 2026. Although renewal talks had taken place, no agreement was reached. Raiola asserted that his client was even willing to accept a pay cut to remain in Paris.
Timeline of Removal from the First Team
In an interview on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, Raiola explained that after the summer break, he met with PSG sporting director Luis Campos to discuss the remainder of Donnarumma’s contract.
“I reminded them that Gigio still had a year left on his deal that he intended to honour until the end,” he said.
However, around August 7, Campos informed him that head coach Luis Enrique had decided not to call Donnarumma up anymore, even excluding him from training sessions and the first-team squad. Campos reportedly stated that the decision was purely the coach’s choice, not the club’s.
No Offers from Italy, Premier League a Likely Destination
While Juventus and Inter Milan had previously shown interest, Raiola revealed that no Italian club made a formal approach during this transfer window.
“It’s not just about finances, but top Italian clubs are not in the best economic condition. The Premier League is very appealing to us — many of my clients consider it the most competitive league in the world,” he said.
Raiola clarified that a return to Italy remains possible in the future, but no Serie A side is currently in negotiations. Financially, he believes no Italian club can meet the requirements to sign Donnarumma at present.
Possible Motives Behind PSG’s Decision
Raiola expressed doubt that the decision was solely the coach’s doing. “A month ago, we were discussing a new contract. It’s hard to believe the coach’s opinion changed so drastically during the summer break, especially after everything Gigio has achieved.”
He speculated that PSG might be concerned about placing a goalkeeper of Donnarumma’s calibre alongside young signing Lucas Chevalier, fearing it could place undue pressure on the newcomer.
“This reasoning doesn’t make sense. When Gigio joined, he competed with an elite keeper like Keylor Navas. Even at 16, he faced strong competition at AC Milan. This is more about a lack of confidence in the new signing,” Raiola added.
A Contract Agreement Altered Midway
Reports suggest PSG aimed to cut Donnarumma’s €12 million annual salary in favour of a performance-based structure.
Raiola said his client was willing to compromise for the club he has represented since leaving AC Milan in 2021.
“We never caused problems in the media because the team was getting great results. We didn’t even get to submit an official request. I had signalled our intentions a year ago, but there was no response,” he said.
According to Raiola, PSG initially proposed terms that were acceptable to Donnarumma’s camp. However, the official documents they later received contained conditions that differed from the original understanding.
“I decided to halt negotiations and planned to resume them after the Champions League final. But it all ended like this.”
Threat of Legal Action
Raiola stated that before the FIFA Club World Cup, PSG had indicated a desire to continue working with Donnarumma.
“That’s why what happened in the last 10 days came as such a shock. I understand they want to bring in a new goalkeeper, but to drop Gigio after all he has done is a huge sign of disrespect. I am even considering legal action,” he concluded.
