Rasmus Hojlund Officially Leaves Manchester United to Join Napoli on Loan

Mansion Sports - Serie A champions Napoli have officially announced the signing of Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund on a season-long loan deal.

The agreement includes a conditional obligation-to-buy clause worth €44 million (£38 million/$51 million), which will automatically be triggered should Napoli qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League, according to a report from The Athletic.

Hojlund’s Situation at Manchester United

The 22-year-old Denmark international found himself surplus to requirements at Old Trafford after failing to make the matchday squad in any of United’s first four Premier League fixtures this season.

Although Hojlund had previously expressed his determination to stay and fight for his place, the club’s management ultimately decided to approve his departure.

The forward had also attracted interest from RB Leipzig and Newcastle United, but his move to Italy represents a fresh opportunity to reignite his career.

Reunion with Scott McTominay at Napoli

Hojlund’s transfer to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona will reunite him with his former Manchester United teammate, Scott McTominay.

The Scottish midfielder has flourished since joining Napoli in the summer of 2024, recording 12 goals in 34 Serie A appearances.

McTominay played a pivotal role in Antonio Conte’s side overtaking Inter Milan to secure the league title.

Potential Napoli Debut and Manchester United’s Upcoming Fixture

Hojlund is expected to make his debut for Napoli against Fiorentina in Serie A on September 13, following the conclusion of the international break.

Meanwhile, Manchester United will return to action a day later, on September 14, in a high-profile derby clash against city rivals Manchester City.
