Manchester City Officially Signs Norwegian Prodigy Sverre Nypan

Mansion Sports - Manchester City has officially secured the services of one of Europe’s most promising young talents, Sverre Nypan, from Norwegian club Rosenborg.

The highly rated midfielder joins the Premier League champions as part of their long-term squad development strategy, with the transfer representing a record sale for Rosenborg.

The 18-year-old talent has committed to a five-year deal with Manchester City, in a move valued at approximately €15 million (equivalent to £12.9 million or $17.3 million). City overcame competition from fellow Premier League sides Arsenal and Aston Villa to win the race for his signature.

A Versatile Talent Proven Since the Age of 15

Sverre Nypan has already established himself as a remarkably versatile midfielder, capable of operating in several roles across the pitch.

In addition to his primary position as a deep-lying playmaker, Nypan has demonstrated effectiveness as an attacking midfielder, winger, and even a central forward.

Nypan made his professional debut at just 15 years old and has since accumulated 70 appearances for Rosenborg, contributing 14 goals and 11 assists. Such statistics underscore a level of maturity and productivity rarely seen in players of his age.

Nypan Expresses Excitement at Joining Pep Guardiola’s Squad

In his first official statement as a Manchester City player, Nypan did not hide his enthusiasm about joining a club of such global stature—particularly under the guidance of Pep Guardiola.

“I am incredibly happy and proud to join Manchester City. It is a dream for every young footballer to become part of a club like this and to play alongside some of the best talents in the world,” Nypan said.

“I know I am still very young and have much to learn, but the opportunity to be coached by Pep Guardiola, the best manager in the world, will help me become a much better player.”

Long-Term Scouting and Strategic Planning by City

Manchester City’s Director of Football, Hugo Viana, revealed that the club had been closely monitoring Nypan’s development for an extended period. The club’s confidence in his potential was a key factor in completing the transfer.

“Sverre is an extremely exciting young player we’ve been watching for quite some time. He has already displayed a range of impressive qualities, and at just 18 years old, we believe he has enormous room to grow,” said Viana.

City’s interest in Nypan first surfaced during the January transfer window. At that time, Girona—another club under the City Football Group umbrella—was also linked with a potential move. Six months later, the midfielder has now officially joined Manchester City’s ranks.

Reinforcing City’s Norwegian Contingent

Upon his arrival at the Etihad Stadium, Sverre Nypan joins a growing Norwegian presence within the club.

He will line up alongside national teammates Erling Haaland—who also shares the same agent—and Oscar Bobb.

Nypan becomes City’s fifth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Rayan Cherki, Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Ait-Nouri, and Marcus Bettinelli.

Development Plan: A Likely Loan Spell Ahead

Given the current depth and quality within Manchester City’s midfield, it is highly probable that Nypan will be loaned out for the 2025–26 season.

This move would allow him to gain valuable playing time and accelerate his development in a competitive environment.

Though he may not feature regularly in City’s first team immediately, the club clearly sees Nypan as a critical component of its long-term vision.

His signing reflects Manchester City’s ongoing commitment to building a future grounded in youth, talent, and meticulous planning.
