Man Utd Renew Interest in Donnarumma Amid Goalkeeper Uncertainty
Mansion Sports – Manchester United are reportedly reassessing their goalkeeping options and have reignited interest in Paris Saint-Germain’s Gianluigi Donnarumma.
This renewed pursuit follows initial inquiries made by the Premier League club earlier in the summer transfer window regarding the availability of the Italian international.
Donnarumma Emerges as a Key Target If PSG Secures New Goalkeeper
Paris Saint-Germain are actively pursuing a move for Lille’s highly rated goalkeeper, Lucas Chevalier.
Should that transfer materialize, Manchester United are expected to accelerate their efforts to bring Donnarumma to Old Trafford.
The 25-year-old goalkeeper played a crucial role in helping PSG secure their first-ever UEFA Champions League title last season, significantly boosting his stock on the transfer market.
With only 12 months remaining on his current contract, PSG are reportedly open to selling Donnarumma if a suitable offer is presented. However, the club remains prepared to retain him should no satisfactory deal be reached.

Goalkeeping Instability Continues to Plague Manchester United
Manchester United’s goalkeeping situation has been far from stable since last season. Following the departure of long-time number one David de Gea in 2023, then-manager Erik ten Hag brought in André Onana from Ajax Amsterdam.
Despite high expectations, Onana’s performances in the Premier League have fallen short, leading new manager Ruben Amorim to reassess his options in this critical position.
United had previously expressed interest in Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martínez, even submitting a loan bid.
However, Villa were only willing to part with the Argentine goalkeeper on a permanent transfer, halting negotiations.
Young Goalkeepers Also on United's Radar
In addition to Donnarumma, Manchester United are said to be monitoring Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens of Royal Antwerp.
Lammens has openly expressed his interest in joining the Red Devils, suggesting that the club may also be exploring long-term investments for the goalkeeping department.
Meanwhile, Onana is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury and has missed United’s pre-season tour in the United States as part of the Premier League Summer Series.
In his absence, Ruben Amorim has handed starting opportunities to Altay Bayındır and veteran Tom Heaton. Bayındır is expected to feature again in United’s final pre-season fixture in Atlanta on August 3.
Onana’s Future Remains Uncertain as Season Approaches
With Manchester United’s Premier League opener against Arsenal scheduled for August 17, Onana faces a race against time to regain full fitness.
However, if the club secures a new first-choice goalkeeper in the coming weeks, Onana’s status as the main shot-stopper could be in jeopardy before the season officially kicks off.
This ongoing uncertainty underscores United’s urgency to resolve their goalkeeping dilemma and avoid further disruption in a key area of the squad.
Donnarumma, given his international pedigree and proven record at the top level, is seen as a reliable and long-term solution capable of restoring confidence between the posts.
