Liverpool Reach Agreement to Sign Hugo Ekitiké from Eintracht Frankfurt

Mansion Sports - Liverpool have reportedly finalized an agreement with Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt to secure the services of their star forward, Hugo Ekitiké.

This move represents a swift and strategic response by the Merseyside club following the rejection of their ambitious approach for Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak.

Although Ekitiké’s price tag is significantly lower than the £130 million valuation placed on Isak, Liverpool have demonstrated both intent and financial commitment in their pursuit of attacking reinforcements.

Agreement Reached Following Initial Rejection

According to The Athletic, Liverpool's initial offer was promptly declined by Frankfurt. However, after further negotiations, both clubs reached consensus on the framework of a deal, which is now pending final administrative procedures.

While the initial reports did not specify the exact figures involved, sources confirmed that if all the performance-related clauses in the agreement are activated, the total value of the deal would surpass any previous player sale in Eintracht Frankfurt’s history.

The current record is held by Randal Kolo Muani, who was transferred to Paris Saint-Germain in 2023 for €95 million (£82.3 million).

Payment Structure Could Break Frankfurt's Transfer Record

Sky Sports News reports that Liverpool’s opening bid stood at €80 million (£69.3 million), while renowned transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that the total fee could rise to €90 million (£78 million) via easily achievable add-ons.

Should more demanding conditions also be met, the deal could reach €95 million — potentially equalling the club’s highest-ever sale.

Hugo Ekitiké is expected to sign a six-year contract with Liverpool, tying him to the club until 2031 and reflecting their long-term faith in the 22-year-old striker.

Newcastle Redirects Attention, Liverpool Bolsters Frontline

Ekitiké had also drawn interest from Newcastle United, though he was viewed more as a complementary partner to Alexander Isak rather than a direct replacement.

However, with Liverpool advancing more decisively in the negotiations, Newcastle shifted their attention to Brentford’s Yoane Wissa.

That pursuit has encountered complications, largely due to the expected departure of Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United, which could affect Brentford’s willingness to release another key attacker in the same window.

Ekitiké Not Liverpool’s Most Expensive Signing This Summer

Interestingly, while the transfer of Ekitiké could represent a record-breaking sale for Frankfurt, it does not mark Liverpool’s most expensive acquisition of the summer.

That distinction belongs to Florian Wirtz, whose transfer from Bayer Leverkusen is set to break the English transfer record with a fee reportedly reaching £116 million (approximately €135 million).

With Ekitiké’s addition, Liverpool’s total spending this summer has now surpassed £180 million (around €210 million), making it the club’s most expensive transfer window in history.

This level of investment underlines the club’s determination to refresh and strengthen their attacking arsenal under new manager Arne Slot, who appears to be wasting no time in reshaping the squad in his vision.
