Eddie Howe Gives Update on Alexander Isak’s Transfer to Liverpool

Mansion Sports Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has publicly clarified the current status of Alexander Isak amid persistent rumors linking the Swedish striker with a high-profile move to Liverpool

Speaking to the media, Howe affirmed that the club has yet to receive any formal bid for the player and emphasized that Isak remains a Newcastle player under contract.

Liverpool Reportedly Prepared Record-Breaking Offer for Isak

Reports emerging in mid-July suggested that Liverpool was preparing an extraordinary bid worth £120 million (approximately €140 million) to secure Isak’s services. The proposed amount would have marked a historic figure in English football transfer records.

However, Newcastle United quickly signaled a strong reluctance to part with their star forward, who is considered integral to Eddie Howe’s tactical setup.

In response to Newcastle’s stance, Liverpool shifted their attention to alternative targets and proceeded to sign Hugo Ekitiké.

Nevertheless, the rumors resurfaced following claims that Isak had privately expressed interest in leaving St. James’ Park.

This development reportedly compelled Newcastle’s management to reconsider their rigid stance, acknowledging that while they are not actively seeking to sell Isak, they may be forced to evaluate offers under certain circumstances.

Howe Reaffirms Isak’s Commitment but Admits Uncertainty

During a recent press conference, Eddie Howe addressed the ongoing speculation with transparency. “He is still our player,” said Howe.

“He is under contract with us, and to a certain extent, we still have control over what happens next in his career. My hope, of course, is that he stays, but it is not entirely up to me.”

Howe was also clear in stating that no official approach had been made by any club. “We have not received a formal offer for Alex from any club,” he added, underlining that the club remains in a position of strength for now.

High Price Tag a Major Obstacle for Liverpool

If Liverpool genuinely intends to launch a formal offer, they are expected to meet a significant financial threshold—potentially surpassing the previous English transfer record set during Florian Wirtz’s acquisition.

Several sources have indicated that Newcastle would only be tempted to consider a sale if a bid reaches the £150 million mark.

Such a valuation reflects both the club's determination to retain its top talents and the premium placed on Isak's influence and potential.

Newcastle Balancing Transfer Strategy Amid Champions League Return

While speculation continues to swirl around Isak’s future, Newcastle United remains focused on reinforcing the squad ahead of the upcoming season, particularly with the club returning to Champions League competition.

Thus far, the Magpies have only completed one major signing—Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest.

Eddie Howe has voiced concerns over the club’s limited activity in the transfer market. “If the players we want are not available at the right price, we won’t force the issue,” he stated with a hint of frustration.

“Everything has to align. Naturally, we want to improve the depth and quality of the squad, and we’re hopeful of completing a few more deals soon.”

With the transfer window in full swing, Newcastle faces pivotal decisions both in retaining core assets like Alexander Isak and in bolstering the squad to ensure they remain competitive at the highest level of European football.
