Mansion Sports - Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are reportedly growing increasingly concerned about the slow progress in their negotiations for a contract extension with star goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. 

The situation is further complicated by mounting interest from Premier League side Chelsea, who are said to be preparing a concrete approach to secure the Italian international.

Contract Nearing Expiration Raises Alarm at PSG

Donnarumma joined PSG in 2021 on a free transfer following his departure from AC Milan. In lieu of a transfer fee, the French club offered him a substantial salary package as compensation.

However, his current contract is now set to expire in June 2026, giving him less than two years remaining on his deal.

This looming expiration poses a significant risk for PSG, who could potentially lose a world-class asset on a free transfer — mirroring the same manner in which they initially acquired him.

According to reports from RMC Sport, PSG are growing uneasy due to the stagnation of contract talks with Donnarumma. 

While the 25-year-old goalkeeper has publicly affirmed his desire to remain in Paris, he is reportedly standing firm on his demand for an annual salary of €12 million.

This insistence on maintaining his current wages has become a major obstacle in reaching a new agreement, particularly as PSG have adopted a more cautious approach to player salaries in recent years. 

The club's financial strategy now emphasizes sustainability, making it more reluctant to offer lucrative contracts without compromise.

Donnarumma's Vital Role in PSG’s Recent Success

Since his arrival in the French capital, Donnarumma has become an indispensable figure for PSG.
