Mansion Sports - Barcelona has officially confirmed that rising star Lamine Yamal will wear the club’s iconic number 10 jersey for the upcoming season. 

In the same announcement, the Catalan club also revealed that Yamal has signed a contract extension that will keep him at Camp Nou until 2031—a clear indication of the club’s full commitment to the teenager often hailed as the future of Blaugrana’s legacy.

A Jersey Steeped in Symbolism

In a professionally produced video released by the club, Barcelona unveiled Yamal as the new bearer of the legendary number 10 shirt, succeeding Ansu Fati. 

Historically, this number has been worn by some of the club’s most celebrated figures, most notably Lionel Messi and Ronaldinho. 

To mark the momentous occasion, a special mural was created in Yamal’s hometown of Rocafonda in Mataró, a town just outside Barcelona, celebrating his roots and rapid rise.

Long-Term Commitment From an Early Age

Speaking to the club’s official media, Yamal expressed immense gratitude and pride after signing a long-term deal that secures his future at Barcelona until 2031. 

Having just turned 18, the young winger described the opportunity as the fulfillment of a lifelong dream.

“This has been my dream since I was a child, and I am incredibly happy, especially because my family is here to share this moment with me. It truly is a dream come true,” he said.

He went on to add, “This club is my life. I’ve been here since I was seven years old—this is my home. Coming up through La Masia and now playing for the first team is a dream that I am living, and I know I must continue working hard.”

Driven by Ambition and Determined to Win

Despite his youth, Yamal has shown an unwavering determination to succeed at the highest level. His goals are clear, and his mindset reflects the winning mentality that defines Barcelona’s historical standards.

“My objective is to win—always win. To enjoy the game, to keep developing, but above all, to win,” he emphasized.

Yamal also shared an optimistic message for the fans: “I’m really looking forward to playing in the new stadium. We’re going to experience many beautiful moments together, and we’re going to win—without a doubt.”

Monumental Contract Value and Strategic Protection

With this new contract, Barcelona has taken significant steps to protect one of its most prized assets from the interest of Europe’s wealthiest clubs. 

Last season, Paris Saint-Germain reportedly expressed serious interest in acquiring Yamal when he was still only 16 years old, with rumors suggesting the French side was prepared to offer up to €200 million for his services.

Now, however, Yamal’s release clause has been set at an astronomical €1 billion—an unmistakable declaration of how vital he is to the club’s long-term vision. 

Furthermore, he is set to become one of the highest-paid players in the first team, with a base salary of €8 million per year, excluding various bonuses and performance-based incentives that are expected to grow over time.

While Yamal’s current contract runs until 2031, it is highly likely that Barcelona will revisit and revise the terms of his agreement in the coming years.
