Mansion Sports - Serie A side Atalanta are reportedly preparing to secure the signing of Italy international Federico Chiesa from Liverpool in a deal worth €12 million. 

In a notable development, Liverpool are said to be willing to shoulder a significant portion of the player's wages to facilitate the transfer.

Chiesa No Longer in Liverpool’s Plans for the Upcoming Season

Federico Chiesa’s future at Liverpool appears increasingly uncertain, as the winger has been excluded from the club’s pre-season training camp. 

The former Juventus and Fiorentina star seems to have fallen out of favour at Anfield, a year after his €12 million move from Turin.

Since his arrival, Chiesa has made only 14 competitive appearances for the Reds, contributing just two goals and two assists. 

His overall playing time was limited, with a total of just 466 minutes across all competitions, highlighting his marginal role within the squad.

Return to Serie A Beckons with Atalanta Offer

According to Sportitalia, Atalanta are prepared to match the €12 million fee that Liverpool paid for Chiesa a year ago in order to bring the winger back to Italy. The Bergamo-based club is reportedly ready to offer the 26-year-old a three-year contract.

In an effort to ease the transfer process, Liverpool are reportedly open to covering a substantial portion of Chiesa’s wages as part of the deal. This compromise could prove pivotal in finalising the transfer swiftly.

Potential Replacement for Ademola Lookman at Atalanta

Should the move materialise, Chiesa is expected to serve as a direct replacement for Ademola Lookman in Atalanta’s attacking setup. 

Lookman has recently been linked with a big-money transfer to Inter Milan, with a potential fee of around €50 million.

His anticipated departure would leave a critical void in Atalanta’s offensive structure, one that the club aims to fill with an experienced and versatile player like Chiesa, who brings both Serie A pedigree and international experience.
